The FROGS (aka The Mount Holly Friends of the Greenways) keep on hopping.
On the Foundation Calendar are our FROGS Hikes for 2009 . The hike schedule is also posted below...Our next one is Saturday July 18th. Please note that our departure will be at 8:30 AM from Rankin Elementary School. This will be a great hike....in our beautiful NC mountains ...and a great opportunity to fellowship and talk about future hikes as well as GREENWAY progress.
As you have read in the paper lately, your Foundation has been very busy working toward resolving issues with our proposed Catawba River Greenway. Bob Suttenfield, Chair along with the Executive team (Bobby Black, Lee Beatty, Joel Lineberger, and myself) have worked hard to continue moving us in a forward direction.
- The Mount Holly Community Development Foundation has approved the contract to allow Chuck Flink and Greenways Inc. to complete the detailed construction plans for the northern portion of our greenway to Mountain Island Dam. This means we will be "shovel ready" within 6 months should funding come our way.
- Our Greenway has been submitted by at least two agencies for funding within the Obama Stimulus Package
- Duke Energy continues to lead the way as they have allowed us to survey their property to determine where the greenway will be located on their property heading south to Tuck Park.
- Clarient is on board and promises to support our efforts, all though we have yet to determine where the best place to locate our greenway may be along their property.
- Negotiations are continuing between A&E concerning water and sewer costs. A&E has tied the Easement Agreement to this issue and for now we must leave this matter to the city to negotiate. Even so, they have allowed us on their property to survey and begin the necessary detailed construction plans. We are hopeful that progress will be made.
- The city has hired a new recreation director and she is BIG on greenways. Good news for us and the city.
- The Foundation now has a presence in our downtown right beside the coffee house and will be opening very soon. Look for our Foundation logo to be appearing soon.
